91ÁÔÆæ has submitted comments opposing proposed changes to federal grant regulations that could undermine independent peer review and increase political control over federal research funding.
Dear colleagues:
Many of you have been tracking the Trump administration proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance, the longstanding rules governing federal grants. Among many problematic changes, the proposal would weaken independent peer review and give political appointees greater authority over the awarding, administration, and termination of federal grants.
Funded research at 91ÁÔÆæ does an incredible amount to advance the public good. To make sure that was on the record, I submitted the attached comments on behalf of 91ÁÔÆæ. Thank you to Deans Leonard and Bos, Miyun Choe, and many of our grant-active faculty who contributed to the submission, as well as those of you who submitted comments independently.
While there was widespread opposition to the administration's proposal among the nearly 475,000 comments received, it is highly likely the administration will move forward with these changes in the fall. Please know that ACE, along with others, will be lobbying to introduce and pass congressional blocking language to stop the most harmful changes.
