Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service | 2025 & 2026
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. legacy of service, justice, and community empowerment, over 100 91ÁÔÆæ students, faculty, and staff participated in the annual in 2025 and 2026, organized by L.A. Works at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
As one of Southern California largest service events honoring Dr. King, the festival brings together more than 3,000 Angelenos to engage in meaningful community service and collective action. Through hands-on volunteer activities, Occidental participants supported initiatives addressing wildfire recovery, food insecurity, educational equity, health disparities, and the needs of vulnerable communities. Service projects included assembling meal kits, creating educational resources for children, and preparing native seed balls to support environmental restoration.
Beyond volunteer service, the festival celebrates civic engagement and community resilience by connecting participants with local nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and BIPOC-owned small businesses.
Through 91ÁÔÆæ SLICE 91ÁÔÆæ Connects program, this annual partnership with L.A. Works reflects the College ongoing commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and fostering meaningful relationships across Los Angeles. Together, students, faculty, and staff put Dr. King vision of a Beloved Community into action through compassion, solidarity, and collective service.
